110 - Don_t Be A Del

Ponder this. There's a scene in the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles where the character Del Griffith is on a very crowded airplane and proceeds to remove his shoes from his tired and aching feet. And it doesn't stop there. Del Griffith goes on to remove his socks and air one out by waving it over his head. The passenger next to him is totally disgusted—and rightly so.

Most of us have experienced a person who, like Del Griffith, is totally oblivious to the impact of his actions on those around them. Maybe each one of us has a little Del Griffith in us.

Think about this. Have you ever used inappropriate language around others? Maybe even used God's name in vain—hello, Del. Maybe you've left dirty dishes in the sink for someone else to clean—Del again. Perhaps you ran that stoplight that just turned red, endangering others—Del, Del.

It's time we begin to recognize the Del within us and start making changes. Let's be more attentive to the people around us and focus on their needs. Always thinking of others first is one way to imitate Christ.
