Ponder this. I was recently walking into a department store and noticed many decorations for an upcoming federal holiday. There were giant pinwheels, banners, wreaths, garland, signs, and a host of kitchen accessories celebrating the upcoming holiday. It all made me pause. How many times have I been sucked into purchasing cute holiday-themed items? More times than I care to count. And ladies, you know what I'm talking about. It's nice to have our homes and offices decorated for the major holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and July 4th. But do we really need to have truckloads of decorations for Halloween, Valentine's Day, and St. Patrick's Day? Let's face it, many of these items are made in China and are tossed after the holiday to find their forever home in our landfills.

For those whom God has given the means to have more, let's use our financial blessings to help others. Let's take a pause before purchasing things we really don't need and ponder how we can better serve others. Let's avoid pointless purchases.
