Ponder this. Wind chimes. Have you ever noticed that people who have wind chimes rarely have to hear them clink? It's their innocent neighbors who are subjected to this noisy obstruction to peace and quiet. I've never understood the attraction to this annoying object.
Wind chimes represent our desire to fill the silence in our lives with noise. They are a distant cousin to earbuds, elevator music, and YouTube videos. All are a way to fill our heads with noise. All scream of the resistance to being alone in silence.
Silence. Ah, the beautiful sound of being alone in your thoughts. Silence, the language of God. If you are filling your head with any kind of noise, you may not be able to hear the voice of God, and God often desires your undivided attention. He has given us the beautiful sounds in nature for our enjoyment. Listen to the birds chirp and the wind blowing through the trees. Resist the temptation to fill your head with the noise of chimes. God wants to talk to you.
