Ponder this. Do you know why Catholics go to Mass? There are actually four ends or purposes of the Mass. First and foremost, Catholics go to Mass to worship and adore God the Father. Second, Catholics go to Mass to give thanks to God for the many blessings God gives them. Third, the purpose of the Mass is to atone for our sins, and the fourth and final purpose of the Mass is to petition the Lord for our many needs and desires.
There you have it. We go to Mass to worship and adore God, to give thanks to God, to atone for our sins, and to petition God for all of our needs.
Next time you are having a conversation with a practicing Catholic, ask them if they know why they go to Mass. Chances are they will say to receive Holy Communion. If they do, refer them to their Catholic Catechism, because the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is all about God and not about us.
