Pull It Together

Ponder this. My son-in-law, Alex, has a phrase that he uses often to get his children back on track when they are getting out of control. And having seven young children to raise to become holy men and women of God provides frequent opportunities for correcting the misbehaviors of the young ones. When the kids need a quick reprimand, Alex, with a commanding voice, tells them to pull it together. This command is usually very effective in getting the attention of the child, and immediate corrective action is usually the result.
It seems that we, too—we grown-ups—find daily opportunities to get out of control. We are often impatient with others, get angry easily, and fly off the handle at the smallest aggravation. Before acting on these feelings, we should perhaps consider employing the command used by Alex and pull it together. Take a moment to calm down, lower the temperature, and make a self-adjustment to heated moments in your day. At times like these, we must simply pull it together.
