Place the Mask on Yourself

Ponder this. Part of the pre-flight instructions given by a flight attendant is to place the oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others in the event of the loss of cabin pressure. This at first may seem selfish. After all, shouldn't we care more about others than ourselves?
However, this is sound advice, as we cannot help others if we are passed out from lack of oxygen. After we are able to breathe, we then help those around us, particularly children and those who cannot help themselves.
We can also apply this principle to our daily lives. We must first take care of ourselves, physically and spiritually, before we can help others do the same.
You see, there is an order to life and a love that God has placed in every human heart. We must first know, love, and serve God personally, and then we must go in haste to help others get to know, love, and serve God. We start with ourselves, then our families, and then our communities. This
is the order established by God.
