92 - Commandment 5-No Killing_f

Ponder this. God created us to know Him, love Him, and serve Him. That is the mission of every one of us. If we love Him, we will keep His commandments. So let’s take a look at how we can love Him and serve Him by keeping His fifth commandment: Thou shalt not kill.

Most of us believe we can safely say that we are in full compliance with this commandment and have not murdered anyone. But not so fast. There is more to this commandment than what meets the eye. Other actions that fall under this commandment include abortion, euthanasia, and even killing a person’s reputation through slander or gossip.

“How can this be?” you might ask. Yes, these are sins. Sins separate us from God. Mortal sins can kill the divine life within us. For Catholics, there is a sacrament that restores our relationship with God when we have severed this relationship through sin. Turn away from sin and turn to God. Return to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Do not waste time.

And if you are not Catholic, now may be a good time to explore the faith.
